In-home Assistants

Some of the more able residents are trained to teach the Children how to eat, be toilet trained, acquire minor home skills like washing and drying utensils, keeping the home environment clean etc.

Bukit Harapan has successfully trained the following Special Persons and some are now working with us.

  1. Hamid Kassim.
Hamid, an orphan, is paralysed from the waist down. He moves around in a wheel-chair and takes care of the garden as well as minor maintenance around the Home.
  2. Jaafar Ali.
Jaafar, an orphan; is a slow learner. He was the driver at Bukit Harapan. He also helped around the house and garden.
  3. Lamini Gombulitah.
Lamini has cerebral palsy and is also unable to speak. She does the sweeping, mopping, washing of clothes, tidying around the house and takes care of the little ones when she is free.
  4. Suzie Yanti Wences. Suzie is paralyzed from the waist down. She has never attended school but has taught herself to read and write. Since being in Bukit Harapan, her reading and writing has greatly improved. She has also improved her English and Mama Anne has decided to train her to be a teacher’s aid. She is now handling a class of 6 special persons.
  5. Pendi Wong.
Pendi comes from Kudat. He is also an orphan. He attended the government mainstream school for only three years. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, family members sent him to Bukit Harapan and since then he has been attending special education classes and at the same time, he reads, writes and does drawing. About five years ago while still staying in Bukit Harapan; he was integrated into Sekolah Swasta Seri Insan where the principal and teachers have been very helpful in the process of his integration. He is now reunited with family members and is a full time student at Sekolah Swasta Seri Insan. He often calls the staffs and his friends here in Bukit Harapan and sometimes he would visit us.

“Let each one you meet, feel appreciated and good.”
