Bukit Harapan is a non-profit, voluntary, organisation for the physically and mentally handicapped registered on November 8th 1989 under the Trustees Ordinance Act (cap 148) in Sabah, Malaysia.

Founded by Anne Keyworth, its objectives are…

  • To help special persons regain their rightful human dignity and place in society.
  • To give a holistic education: academic development, social integration, home economics, etc.
  • To develop soul care in the special person - to help them understand, handle and develop their emotions in a proper direction.
  • To foster, as far as possible, the healing of their mental emotional and physical constitutients.
  • To train them according to their individual capabilities so that they would eventually become self dependant and useful citizens.
  • To provide counselling and aid to the abuse, negelected children and their parents.

Training Teachers

In addition to providing a home and school for our Special Persons, we also provide the opportunity for youths from the rural areas to receive professional training in the field of care and rehabilitation of the handicapped, both physical and mental.

In-home Assistants

Some of the more able residents are trained to teach the Children how to eat, be toilet trained, acquire minor home skills like washing and drying utensils, keeping the home environment clean etc.
